Arthur Mafokate and Kelly Khumalo take SA by storm with their new song ‘Ngeke’

It’s official! Kelly Khumalo and Arthur Mafokate have confirmed what many netizens suspected ─ that they are working on a song together. Their new track, Ngeke and its music video, was released unexpectedly on Sunday, 2 March 2025, and quickly became South Africa’s anthem, racking up over 70k streams.

A few weeks ago, Arthur and Kelly shared cosy and romantic photos of themselves on Instagram, sparking curiosity among fans. The reactions were mixed, with some speculating that the two were a couple, while others correctly guessed that the pictures were behind-the-scenes shots from their music video.

Arthur shared the exciting news on Instagram by posting a video of him and Kelly performing the song live on stage, with the audience singing along.

Grateful for the love and support they have received for the song, Arthur wrote the following:

“When God is in charge, nothing can stop what people demand! We released both the song and video unannounced on a Sunday, performed it for the first time on a Sunday and as they say the rest is History, visit YouTube and realise it for yourself and we will release other amazing stats as we move along. We are very grateful for the support you have given us and we love you,”.

Arthur also mentioned that the song has become an anthem in such short space of time.

“Wow! Hard to believe that the song is fast becoming an anthem in such a short space of time, thanks to everyone who is now streaming and singing along to the song,” Arthur wrote.

History of the song Ngeke

Although the song was officially released on Sunday, it had been kept on the shelf for quite some time. Also excited about the song alongside her collaborator, Arthur, Kelly revealed that Ngeke was actually recorded back in 2019. However, for reasons unknown, it remained unreleased for several years until making its debut in 2025.

Ngeke was recorded in 2019 only to be released on Sunday,” Kelly wrote on Instagram.
