Former 7de Laan actress Crystal Donna Roberts has died

South Africa is mourning the loss of a talented and beloved actress, Crystal Donna Roberts, who sadly passed away at the age of 40 after losing battle with stage four breast cancer.

Known for her roles in 7de Laan and Arendsvlei, Roberts captured the hearts of many with her remarkable performances.

Her husband, Schalk Cornelessen, whom she has been married to since 2015, shared the heartbreaking news on Thursday. In an emotional Facebook post, he bid farewell to his wife, expressing his profound love and sorrow as he honoured her memory, writing, “RIP my beautiful, beautiful loving, wife,”.

Adding to the outpouring of grief, Eunice High School also took to Facebook to share a heartfelt message of sorrow and loss. In their post, they expressed their deepest condolences to Roberts’ family, friends, and loved ones.

This is what they wrote:

“It is with great sadness that I inform you about the passing of Crystal-Donna Roberts,(class of 2002) she was well known for her roles in ‘Krotoa‘, ‘Fynskrif‘ and ‘Arendsvlei‘. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this very difficult time,”.

Provincial Minister Ricardo Mackenzie offers his condolences

Western Cape Provincial Minister Ricardo Mackenzie also paid tribute to Donna Roberts, praising her for the immense talent she shared with the world. He acknowledged her dedication to her craft, stating that her passion and commitment were evident in everything she did.

“Crystal was a beloved member of our local theatre community. Her passion for her craft were evident in all that she did. She was a true example of someone who did everything with true dedication and love. She will be greatly missed.

“Our condolences go out to Crystal’s husband, family, friends and all those who worked with her and loved her over the years. Her legacy will live on on our screens, in our theatres and in our hearts for many years to come,” said Mackenzie.

The life of Crystal Donna Roberts

Crystal spent her early years in Cape Town before earning a BA degree in Drama and Theatre from the University of the Free State.

She built an impressive career in the entertainment industry, starring in productions such as 7de Laan, Arendsvlei, Swartwater, and Rondomskrik, among others.

In addition to her acting roles, she also hosted the Afrikaans-language lifestyle magazine show Pasella.
