Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels lifts financial burden for ambitious student

For many students, matric is more than just a final year—it’s the gateway to a future they have worked toward for over a decade. For Njabulo Muthanti, a bright and dedicated student from Prestige College in Hammanskraal, that future came under threat just as she was nearing the finish line.

Amid the pressures of her Cambridge matric year, Njabulo faced a devastating setback: her mother lost her job, leaving the family unable to afford the R41,000 registration fee needed for her final exams. Without it, Njabulo’s dreams of completing her education and going to university next year would be out of reach.

Yet, through it all, Njabulo never wavered. Despite the financial hardship and uncertainty at home, she remained steadfast—focused, hardworking, and hopeful. Her teachers describe her as a student of rare integrity and grit, someone who never stopped striving, even when the odds were stacked against her.

Moved by her story and inspired by her perseverance, her teachers, Helé and Liaan Lategan, launched a fundraiser to help cover the cost. But with the 13 September deadline looming, time—and support—were running out.

Talking about Njabulo’s unwavering dedication and character, her teachers had this to say:

“As her teachers at Prestige College Hammanskraal, we can personally attest to her commitment and character. She has shown remarkable resilience and continues to work tirelessly toward her goals. We believe she deserves the chance to prove herself at this crucial stage of her education, and with support, her future can be transformed,” said Helé and Liaan Lategan.

Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels step in

When Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels heard Njabulo’s inspiring story, they knew they had to help.

In a powerful act of generosity, the Fund donated R50,000—covering the full R41,000 needed for her Cambridge final exam registration, and going even further by providing extra support for her school-related needs during this crucial time.

Speaking after Good Morning Angels extended their support, Martin Bester—host of Jacaranda FM’s flagship breakfast show Breakfast With Martin Bester—shared why they felt compelled to step in.

“Education is one of the most powerful tools a young person can have to change their life. Good Morning Angels is proud to assist a hardworking and dedicated young woman like Njabulo. It would be a tragedy to see her dreams slip away due to financial barriers beyond her control. We are happy to help provide the funds she needs to write her final matric exams and continue on her path to success. Her dedication, resilience, and determination to succeed are truly inspiring, and we are honoured to play a role in helping her achieve her dreams,” said Bester.

Njabulo’s dream comes true

Njabulo is set to write her AS examinations at the end of September—an important milestone on her journey toward university. Without the support from Good Morning Angels, she would have missed the registration deadline, losing the chance to complete her matric qualification and take the next step toward the future she’s worked so hard to build.
