This festive season, the Atteridgeville Community Hall is set to transform into a living work of art.

The Pheli Awards—a fresh and exciting initiative celebrating the drive and creativity of Tshwane’s entrepreneurs, artists, and trailblazing youth—are making their mark with a partnership that’s nothing short of magical.

Adding a touch of legendary flair, iconic South African artist Dr. Ester Mahlangu will present this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Against a backdrop of soft pink elegance, guests are invited to don formal or traditional attire (jeans and T-shirts, please step aside) as the evening unfolds into a gala dinner destined to be one of the season’s most unforgettable cultural highlights.

Celebrating creativity with a South African Legend

Thrilled about the upcoming event, Ofentse Sean Lewis, Director of the Pheli Awards, shared:

“We are thrilled to join forces with Dr Esther Mahlangu, a true legend whose bold, large‑scale works have put South Africa on the global art map. Her Ndebele‑inspired canvases embody the very essence of creativity we aim to nurture in our youth of Tshwane,” said Lewis.

Honouring talent and trailblazers

The prestigious Pheli Awards will take place on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at Atteridgeville Community Hall in Tshwane. Born from a vision of community upliftment, the awards were founded to celebrate hardworking, self-driven individuals aged 13 and up. The Pheli Awards aim to shine a spotlight on emerging talent while honoring those who have already paved the way.

Beaming with excitement, the lady of the moment, Dr. Ester Mahlangu, shared her thoughts:

“My purpose in this country is to serve at a shining light that empowers, educates and pass knowledge to upcoming generations of artists,” said Dr Mahlangu.

With 40 categories recognising local talent through a fair, points-based system, the event will also present three Lifetime Achievement Awards—honouring individuals whose bold, trailblazing work reflects the same daring spirit that defines Dr. Mahlangu’s remarkable career.
