JUST IN: Alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe: Woman loses child after beating

In a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread outrage, allegations have emerged of alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe, with reports suggesting that a woman brutally beaten by police has tragically lost her child.

According to a statement from @CCCZimbabwe on social media platform X, the woman suffered a broken leg as a result of the alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe and remains in custody alongside Senator Jameson Timba and a group referred to as #TheAvondale78. The trio appeared before the Harare Magistrate’s Court today at 11:15 am for a bail hearing.

The bail hearing for Timba and his fellow 78 political detainees has been postponed to Thursday 27th June at 11am.

The incident of alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe has been met with widespread condemnation on social media, with many users decrying what they see as a stark example of the lack of freedom and respect for human rights in the country.

A video of a woman being carried into what looks like the entrance to the Harare Magistrate’s Court has gone viral garnering an outburst of emotions on X. The woman has broken leg in plaster. However, it could not be confirmed as to whether the broken leg was due to police beating or not.

One user, Ghostxall (@ghostxall), expressed their disgust, tweeting, “No sane person whether law officer, policeman, soldier, citizen, civil servant, or public servant should ever treat another citizen in such a derogatory & inhumane manner. The way Zimbabweans have become accustomed to this level of mediocrity is unacceptable! Nobody deserves this!”

Another user, One Phil Mutonhodza (@MutonhodzaPhil), lamented the lack of information surrounding the woman’s identity, stating, “Sad..no one has the guts to look for name. She is just a CCC woman. She lost her baby. An unnamed woman lost her baby. Timba nemwana wake were called by names. Zvasiyaneyi nekuramwira ma chair. Someone give her a name please.”

Despite the outcry, details surrounding the woman’s identity and the circumstances of her arrest remain unclear. It has not been confirmed whether she was pregnant or had a baby with her at the time of the arrest. This ambiguity has only fueled further frustration and calls for accountability among the Zimbabwean media when covering incidents such as these.

The allegations of alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe come at a time of heightened tension in the country, where instances of police brutality and the suppression of political dissent are recurrent concerns. The government’s handling of such cases has often been criticised by human rights organisations, which argue that such incidents reflect deeper issues within the country’s law enforcement and judicial systems.

As the situation develops, the public continues to demand transparency and justice for the alleged victims of this brutal treatment. The case of the woman, whose identity remains unknown, has become a poignant symbol of the broader struggle against alleged police brutality in Zimbabwe and for human rights and dignity in the country.
