Africa Jamz FM launches Owner Fi Di Yard Sound Clash series

Africa Jamz FM has announced the launch of an exciting new sound clash series, dubbed “Owner Fi Di Yard.”

This highly anticipated event aims to crown the ultimate champion among soundsystems, blending the art of dubplates and 45s in a thrilling competition. The series promises to reignite the passion for sound clashes, offering a platform for soundsystems to showcase their skills without the financial burden of purchasing expensive dubplates.

“We have seen a dearth of sound clashes because many sounds cannot afford to buy dubplates,” said Africa Jamz FM.

“This has prompted us to offer a clash style where participants can play either dubs or 45s. The rules are simplified to ensure maximum participation by aspiring soundsystems.”

The Owner Fi Di Yard sound clash series will be held twice a month on Sundays at The Lounge in Great Bridge, West Midlands. This venue is fully equipped to host sound clashes, and participating soundsystems must be familiar with using Rekordbox software. For those who are not, bringing their own controllers is encouraged. Africa Jamz FM emphasised that participants must handle their own transport and accommodation, as these are not provided by the organisers.

What are the clash rules?

To participate in the sound clash, one must be a soundman with some dubplates and 45s. Registration is free, ensuring that the competition remains accessible to all interested soundsystems. Africa Jamz FM outlined the clash format, which will feature three categories:

First Round: 15 minutes for each sound
Second Round: 15 minutes each, dubplates only
Final Round: 45 Shootout, best of 5

A panel of four experienced selectors will serve as judges, awarding marks out of a possible 20 based on the following criteria:

Introduction: 5 marks
Juggling Prowess: 5 marks
Argument: 5 marks
Crowd Engagement: 5 marks

“In the event of a tie, the crowd shall be the deciding judge,” said Africa Jamz FM in a statement.

The ultimate winner will take home a trophy and £500, while all participants will receive certificates of participation.

The launch of the Owner Fi Di Yard series is a significant development for the sound clash community. By allowing sounds to compete with both dubplates and 45s, Africa Jamz FM is addressing a critical barrier and revitalising a cherished cultural tradition.
