Chart-topping artist Daniel Baron opens up about his latest hit ‘Up At Night’

South African chart-topping, multi-platinum artist, and three-time SAMA-nominated pop sensation Daniel Baron, speaks to Africa Jamz FM News about his latest hit ‘Up At Night’.

Known for his catchy songs and amazing music videos, Daniel’s new track is something special. It’s more personal and intimate, with the music video featuring someone very close to him – his wife.

Directed by the acclaimed Matthew Marinus, the music video is an intimate black-and-white masterpiece that captures the raw intensity of the love and connection between Baron and his wife.

‘Up At Night’ brings back Baron’s signature dance anthem energy. He discusses what made him want to return to this sound, and how it reflects where he is as an artist right now.

“I have always had a passion for dance music, and it will always be a part of me. Having played at all the major dance music festivals, and toured the club scene many times over, I love the culture and I wanted to dive right back in. However, this time, with a difference in terms of experimenting a bit with the beat structure and sonics. I see myself as many things in terms of style and genre. And this next era of my sound will definitely be including elements of the dance sound, among other things too,” said Baron.

Details behind the intimate music video

Elaborating more on his music video, Baron takes us through the experience of creating something so intimate with his wife and how he ensured the visuals matched the song’s hypnotic energy.

“It was a very intimate and memorable experience. I have always wanted to feature myself and my wife in a video like this. Yet with life’s crazy schedule, we had not got around to it until, one day I set the date and booked my wife, and then we treated it like a date night.

“She was a little nervous, yet she was amazing on camera and quickly got used to being filmed, and then the rest came very naturally because, we just were our normal selves and didn’t have to pretend or act. We have a beautiful relationship and the chemistry is apparent. It was so cool to film exactly what I wrote the song about, and the visuals ended up perfectly matching my vision for the song,” said Baron.

With more than 30 Number 1 hits and a growing international presence, Baron delves deeper on what keeps him inspired to push boundaries in the South African and global music scene.

“Music will always flow through my veins and I am so passionate about contributing to our beautiful SA music scene, whether it’s producing for other artists or performing on stages.

It has not always been an easy ride, and in between the triumphs there are days where I do get tired, yet I will never stop making music and working tirelessly to reach my dreams and help other musos reach their dreams too! Seeing my success and witnessing how music moves people will always continue to inspire me to keep at it,” said Baron.
