South African Afro house musician and Entrepreneur Mbali Sibisi, popularly known as Mbali Black Goddess , discussed her latest album, Ezekiel, in an interview with Africa Jamz FM News.
The album’s title track, Ezekiel was released on the 6th of February this year, following the success of her 2024 hit Saphelisizwe.
The story behind the song Saphelisizwe
She begins the conversation by sharing the story behind her hit song, Saphelisizwe, which made waves, and explains the message she intended to convey to her listeners.
“Saphelisizwe is a deeply personal and powerful song that speaks to the heart of our struggles, resilience, and collective strength as a people. The inspiration behind it comes from the hardships we face as a society—moments when it feels like our nation is breaking apart, yet we still find the will to rise.
“Through this song, I wanted to remind my listeners that even in pain, there is purpose. We carry the wisdom of those who came before us, and it is our responsibility to rebuild, to heal, and to move forward with strength and unity,” said Mbali.

Inspiration behind the new song, Ezekiel
With her latest track, Ezekiel, released in February, Mbali aims to push boundaries in Afro house music. She talks about the inspiration behind the new song, and how it differs from her past hits.
“Every song I create is a reflection of my journey, my emotions, and the evolving sounds of Afro house. My latest song Ezekiel takes a bold step into new sonic territories while staying true to the deep-rooted rhythms that define my music.
“It’s inspired by a fusion of traditional African storytelling and modern house elements, bringing a fresh energy that sets it apart from my previous work. The message is one of self-discovery—encouraging people to embrace who they are, celebrate their uniqueness, and move with confidence through life,” said Mbali.
Powerful messages behind the songs
Mbali’s songs carry powerful messages. She talks about what she hopes her fans take away from her music, especially with Saphelisizwe and Ezekiel.
“I want my listeners to feel seen, understood, and empowered. Saphelisizwe carries a message of resilience, a reminder that we are stronger together. My latest release, on the other hand, is about personal growth and rising above any situation life throws our way.
“The song, Ezekiel was inspired by the Bible verse in Ezekiel, where he spoke life to the dry bones, and they were resurrected. That scripture reflects the heart of my message—I want my fans to know that no matter what they are going through, it is not the end. It is the beginning of transformation, a rebirth into a stronger, wiser, and more powerful version of themselves. We all have the ability to shift our circumstances and breathe life into our dreams, even when it feels impossible,” said Mbali.

The evolution of Afro house music in Mbali’s journey
Afro house music is evolving, and so are Mbali’s sounds. She explains how she stays true to her roots while exploring new themes and sounds in her music.
“For me, music is a living, breathing art form — it evolves, but it must always stay authentic. I stay true to my roots by infusing my music with the rhythms, stories, and spiritual energy of my heritage. At the same time, I embrace innovation, drawing inspiration from different sounds and cultures to create something fresh. My approach is to blend the old with the new in a way that respects where we come from while pushing us into the future,” said Mbali.
How personal life experiences influence the messages in Mbali’s music
Music is often a reflection of the artist’s personal journey. Mbali states how her personal life and experiences influence the messages and emotions in her music, especially in her two tracks, Saphelisizwe and Ezekiel.
“My music is deeply intertwined with my personal journey. Losing my parents was a life-altering experience, but instead of letting grief consume me, I turned it into my driving force. That pain, that resilience—it echoes in my music.
“Saphelisizwe is born from a place of understanding hardship and rising above it, while Ezekiel reflects my ongoing journey of self-empowerment and healing. Everything I create comes from a place of truth, and that’s why my music connects with people — it’s real, it’s lived, and it’s deeply felt!,” said Mbali.
