BQueen flips a Gospel favourite into a bold new anthem: ‘uThando’

Some voices demand to be heard. Others? They demand to be felt.

That’s the fire Busisiwe Sigenu popularly known as BQueen brings on her brand-new single uThando, produced by the ever-visionary Bongani Fassie.

BQueen is also featured on the new hit track Amalunde, which was recently released and stars lead artist Bongani Fassie and Lungile Msweli, also known as Mr Brooks.

Taking on the timeless Gospel group Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors classic, the duo flips it into something bigger than a song—it’s a pulse, a movement, a reminder that music still has the power to stir souls and shift generations.

In this exclusive interview with Africa Jamz FM News, BQueen lets us into her world, her fearless choices, and why uThando was the perfect song to carry her message.

Reinterpreting the classic gospel song uThando

BQueen decided to reimagine the timeless classic uThando by the renowned Gospel group Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors—a song already cherished and revered. She shares what inspired her to breathe new life into this beloved piece.

“I felt a strong connection to uThando because of its powerful message of love and unity. I believe that its themes are timeless and resonate with both older and newer generations. By giving it a fresh interpretation, I hope to bridge the gap between past and present, making it relatable for today’s listeners while honouring its original essence,” said BQueen.

Setting intentions through prayer and performance

Before BQueen enters the booth or steps onto the stage, she speaks about the prayer of intention she carries with her—a grounding moment that guides her before she begins to sing.

“Before I sing, I always carry a prayer for connection. My intention is to create a space where people feel uplifted and inspired. I want my performances to be a moment of shared experience, where my music touches hearts and brings joy or healing to those who listen,” said BQueen.

Bridging generations through Gospel sound

BQueen’s sound effortlessly blends tradition and modernity. She shares how deeply intentional she is about creating gospel music that resonates with today’s generation while staying true to its rich roots.

“I am very intentional about blending traditional gospel elements with contemporary sounds. This approach allows me to honor the roots of the genre while making it accessible to younger audiences. I want my music to reflect the experiences and struggles of today, all while celebrating the rich heritage of gospel music,” said BQueen.

“With the gift of evoking emotions through music, I feel a profound responsibility to be authentic and honest. My aim is to uplift and inspire listeners, using my platform to address issues that matter. I want to ensure that my music encourages love, hope, and resilience in the hearts of my audience,” said BQueen.
