De Rose’s anthem bridges Umlazi and Soweto

After acclaimed collabs with Sfarzo Tee, DJ Jaivane, Frank Mabeat, Gaba Cannal, and Soa Mattrix, De Rose steps into the spotlight with a deeply personal and soulful Amapiano anthem. Emsotra beautifully blends her Durban roots with the vibrant energy of Soweto.

The track tells a touching story of belonging and connection—celebrating the powerful spirit that links two of South Africa’s most iconic townships.

On the subject, De Rose shared her thoughts:

“As a girl born and raised in Umlazi, when I went to Soweto (Emsotra) for the first time, I felt like I was still in my hood – just a different language. Besides that, I felt like I belong. Emsotra is home,” said De Rose.

Soulful sound, real voice

The single comes alive thanks to producers Thebza and Frank Mabeat, who created an enchanting blend of soulful chords, deep basslines, and hypnotic percussion.

“Thebza and Frank Mabeat made it magical. I wasn’t feeling well that day, but the moment I stepped to that mic, I knew what I wanted and how I wanted it,” said De Rose.

Her raw vocals and unmistakable warmth shine through the track, perfectly capturing the grit and grace that make her artistry so unique.

“You can take me out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of me,” she added.

De Rose’s authentic vibe

For De Rose, Emsotra—a piece of Soweto slang she picked up during her time there—means more than just a place. It’s a feeling, a rhythm, a sense of home that goes beyond borders and sound.

Now officially signed to Haus of Kulture, De Rose is carving out her space as one of South Africa’s most distinctive Amapiano voices. Proudly rooted in her heritage, she’s steadily expanding her reach across the continent. With over 120,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and counting, she’s proving that authenticity truly strikes a chord.
