Social media has been buzzing with drama between media personality Somizi Mhlongo and businessman Manbjessie Tyekana over an event that took place last weekend on March, 1 and 2 in East London.
The two have been throwing shades at each other, with each accusing the other of wrongdoings.
How the drama started
Eastern Cape businessman Manbjessie Tyekana hosted an all-star birthday party on March 1 and 2 at Absa Stadium in East London. He had invited several well-known artists including Big Zulu, Rethabile Khumalo, DJ Tira, Khuzani, Ntencane, and Moshe Ndiki. Somizi was one of the many celebrities who were part of the event.
On his Facebook page, the outraged Tyekana claimed that he has booked Somizi for the event and paid him in full. However, he alleged that instead of showing up for the event, Somizi went to another club instead.
He went on to express his frustration, calling Somizi disrespectful, adding that he does not like him anymore because of this actions.
This is what he said on his post:
“Instead of him coming to my show, Somizi chose to go to another club. He even told his fans on his online platforms that they must come and support him there.
“I used to respect Somizi. I used to respect him. But now I don’t like him for what he did. Uyadelela, Uyadelela uSomizi. Now, it’s time to respect local artists. Moshe Ndiki did well. He was part of the event,” said Tyekana.
Somizi shoots back
There always two sides to every story, and this situation is no exception.
In response to the accusations, Somizi shared a video on his Instagram page addressing Tyekana’s claims. In his video, he acknowledged that Tyekana had paid for his flights and the gig, but the rest of his statements were sharp and direct as he gave his own version of events, stating the event was a flop and it was the most disorganised concert.
“First, I had to wait for them to pick me up from the airport. After 20 minutes, I eventually took an Uber to the hotel with my managers. When we checked in, we realised that our accommodation was not paid for; we were handed speed points to pay for the hotel rooms.
“That stage looked like a table, and even the crowd was not impressed with the event. All the artists who were at Tyekana’s event were unhappy. It was the most disorganised event I have been to. I went on stage and introduced one artist and left. That event was a flop,” said Somizi.
