It’s been eight years since supermodel Naomi Campbell lost someone she considered truly irreplaceable: the legendary designer Azzedine Alaïa, whom she affectionately called “Papa”.
He passed away in 2017, leaving a void that Naomi still feels deeply.
Naomi first met Alaïa when she was just 16, and over the years, he became much more than a mentor—he was the father figure she never had. Guiding her through the highs and lows of the fashion world, he offered protection, wisdom, and encouragement, sharing with her a love for art and culture, while shielding her from the pitfalls of the industry.
Though he is no longer with her, Naomi continues to celebrate Alaïa’s life every day, honouring the profound impact he had on her journey and the indelible mark he left on her heart.

Remembering Papa
Recently, Naomi shared a moving tribute to her “Papa” on her Instagram page, marking the anniversary of his passing. Her message is a touching reminder that while he may be gone, his influence and love remain ever-present in her life.
Here’s what Naomi wrote:
Remembering you today and every day, Azzedine Alaïa. Eight years without your laugh, your presence, your arms around me yet I still feel you close. You were a gift in my life, a true Papa , a protector, a genius with the kindest soul. I’m blessed to have known you, to have been loved by you, and to carry your spirit with me always. Forever in my heart, Papa. Ta fille,” she wrote.
