Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu arrived at Harare Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 26 June, 2024. The two are at the court, facing fraud charges from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over a Presidential Goat Scheme.
In 2021, the Zimbabwe government allegedly signed a contract with an unregistered company named Blackdeck Livestock and Poultry Farming, allegedly represented by Moses Mpofu. The contract, purportedly worth US$87 757 168, was for the supply and delivery of 632 000 goats over five years to benefit underprivileged communities in Zimbabwe.
ZACC claims government paid Blackdeck ZWL1.6 billion to deliver the goats. However, it is alleged that Chimombe and Mpofu did not fulfill the agreement. Instead, they are accused of misappropriating the funds for personal use, purchasing luxury houses and vehicles thus committing fraud.
By late yesterday reports said Chimombe and Mpofu had been detained.
Respected source @ZanuPatriots tweeted: “Cde Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have been detained in custody until tomorrow. Prosecutors plan to present evidence from investigating officers to determine if the accused were coming from home, which will impact the decision on bail.”
This is a developing story ….
