Just this past Saturday, Somizi was riding high after his Shades of Pink event — a massive, sold-out celebration that had fans buzzing! But the glitter wasn’t even off the stage before drama came knocking…
Shortly after the success, Somizi’s name got caught up in a shady situation. An impersonator created a fake Instagram account using his name — and even had the audacity to ask his followers for money.
In the screenshot Somizi shared, the impersonator messaged one of his followers saying:
“Hi, I have noticed your comments. You are such a big fan! Kindly send me a message on Whatsapp to win (0745006089). I have something for you. I’m waiting for your message Say Pay me.”
Not one to stay silent, Somizi took to his real Instagram to set the record straight. He shared a screenshot of the bogus account and made it very clear to his followers and the public: he would never ask anyone for money.
Here’s what he had to say:
“I’d never ask u for money nor send u a dm if I don’t know u personally,” he wrote.

Fans who received this message
After Somizi sounded the alarm, fans quickly jumped into the comments — with a few revealing that they had actually received the same shady message from the impersonator. Luckily, most of them saw right through it and didn’t fall for the scam.
Here’s what some of Somizi’s followers had to say after getting the DM:

Connie Ferguson caught in the same scam storm
Well, Somizi isn’t alone — he’s just the latest celeb to be targeted by online impersonators asking fans for money. Back in July, media powerhouse and actress Connie Ferguson faced the same scam and didn’t stay silent about it.

Connie warned her followers to stay sharp and not fall for these kinds of scams. Here’s what she had to say:
“SCAMMERS ARE DOING THE MOST! Be vigilant! I DO NOT offer any investment opportunity business! Thieves are AI now to convince you that they are whoever they say they are! Do not easily part with money you worked so hard for! If it’s too good to be true it usually is! Have you never asked yourself why they are the ones that always have to call you and you can’t call them back? Don’t be manipulated into losing your common sense because times are hard. Again, IF IT SOUNDS YOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS!,” she wrote.
