South African singer and entrepreneur Lady Du recently marked a major milestone — her salon just turned three years old — and she’s opening up about how far she’s come, the legacy she’s building, and the impact of her businesses on her community.
Over the past three years, Lady Du has turned her salon into more than just a beauty destination. She’s transformed it into a powerful investment plan for her 9-year-old daughter, who already owns three fully paid properties, with businesses operating inside them. For Lady Du, entrepreneurship is about creating long-term wealth, not just for herself, but for the next generation.
The expansion of her salon franchise has been impressive. Her dream was to purchase a property every year to open new branches — and she’s made it happen entirely on her own, without partners or outside investors, relying solely on the support of her fans and the profits from her shows and other businesses. Her approach emphasises financial independence: she doesn’t pay rent, she owns the properties herself, and she reinvests profits back into the community.

Empowering communities and building a family legacy
Beyond the financial growth, Lady Du’s ventures have created employment for 32 people and brought luxury salon experiences to township communities that crave them. Each branch now also includes a mini kids salon for her daughter, ensuring the next generation is involved and learning the ropes of the business from an early age.
Taking to Instagram, Lady Du shared a sincere message reflecting on her journey, the lessons she’s learned, and her future goals.
This is what she wrote:
“Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure, my salon turns 3 years and I’m sooo emotional because I’ve literally achieved the goals I wanted to achieve, my brand isn’t just a business but an investment plan for my daughter’s future should anything happen to me, at 9 she owns currently 3 properties fully paid and I own the businesses in her properties. My dream was to purchase a property every year to franchise my salon from its own profits, funny thing is it has happened through your investment. I say your investment because you guys booked, streamed and supported all my businesses to make my dream a reality.
“I’m currently purchasing my third branch, the goal of expanding every year without partners and an investors has happened, not that I wouldn’t appreciate it but I’ve been able to do it on my own. This is all the money I worked for doing shows and all the other businesses I own. I have invested it back into the community, created employment for 32 people,” wrote Lady Du.

Luxury salons in the township
Continuing with her message, this is what she further wrote:
I need you to start investing smarter, I don’t pay anyone rent, I’m the landlord, the business is doing well because people in our townships need luxury brands for the Sandton experience. Behind every branch I have now added my daughter’s mini kids salon, so every branch will also have her business. I’m still inspired by @tammytaylornails but I would love to have my franchises in the hood!!!!! Happy 3 years to @wawalabeauty1 it’s time to launch @wawalacutzie1. Thank you for all your support friends!!!!! Please be inspired, this isn’t bragging,” wrote Lady Du.
