The Umkhonto WeSizwe Party (MK), South Africa’s Official Opposition, has announced that its members will not attend the SA Presidential Inauguration of Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing it of being sponsored by the Democratic Alliance (DA), and scheduled for tomorrow.
In a scathing press statement, MK condemned the inauguration as a “farcical event” and accused Ramaphosa of being a “puppet” in an alliance between the ANC and DA.
MK spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela expressed the party’s vehement opposition to the event, stating, “We refuse to join in the spitting on the graves of those who died for this freedom by attending the symbolic wedding ceremony of a house negro called Ramaphosa, with the slave master, Helen Zille.”
The MK party has a history of boycotting what it sees as illegitimate political processes. They deliberately avoided the first sitting of the National Assembly, where they claim members of the DA-ANC coalition voted for each other, betraying the struggle for total freedom and land repossession. According to MK, Ramaphosa’s presidency is the result of a “sellout deal” between Fikile Mbalula and Helen Zille, coupled with a “rigged and illegal election” marred by vote manipulation by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
MK’s statement calls on all South Africans who value true freedom and democracy to distance themselves from the SA Presidential Inauguration, both physically and emotionally.
“How can we celebrate when the ANC has signed another deal with the Freedom Front Plus to recognise and protect the racist enclave called Orania? By doing so, the ANC surrendered a part of our country and continent to unrepentant racists to secure the position of Premier for Zamani Saul,” Ndlela said.
The MK party views the ANC’s deal with the DA as a betrayal, accusing the ANC of prioritising political positions over the well-being of the people. The statement vows that MK will use all legal means to fight and expose what it describes as the incoming “illegitimate regime” of Ramaphosa, Steenhuisen, and Groenewald.
MK’s boycott of the SA Presidential Inauguration could signal deepening political rifts in South Africa, as the party rallies progressive forces to unite against what it calls the “reintroduction of apartheid and colonialism.”
This dramatic move signals a contentious and potentially turbulent political landscape ahead.
