Cape Town–born singer-songwriter Nalu has earned a loyal following for her signature blend of jazz, R&B, acoustic soul, and lo-fi — and for the way she beautifully captures womanhood, self-love, and human connection in her music.

Now, she’s stepping confidently into her pop era with Meteor, a dreamy and uplifting new single that turns heartbreak into something bright and empowering. Turning betrayal into stardust

If you have ever had someone play the Judas role in your life and betray your trust, this song will hit home. When Nalu opened up about the message behind the single, here’s what she shared:

“This is my reminder to anyone healing from betrayal: your light can’t be dimmed, only redirected. And even the most destructive impact can leave behind stardust,” said Nalu.

Reclaiming power and self-love

Raw, honest, and sonically uplifting, Meteor channels that powerful moment when you finally take your strength back after a painful split. And while it was inspired by the end of a friendship, its message stretches far beyond a single experience.

Meteor is about reclaiming yourself, and your power, after losing someone you thought would always be in your life. Writing this song was my way of taking that power back, of choosing self-validation after being made to doubt my own truth,” said Nalu.

How ‘Meteor’ turned pain into joy

The song first ignited during a late-night YouTube deep dive, when Nalu stumbled across a beat that instantly unlocked everything she had been searching for.

“I wanted to bring lightness to something that once felt dark and make a fun, freeing record out of the pain of the past,” said Nalu.

Embracing her Pop era

With this new single, Nalu fully embraces what fans are calling her “pop era.”

“It happened completely organically. Mixing that pop energy with my R&B roots created this dreamy, floaty sound that I have really fallen in love with,” said Nalu.

The single drops amid a period of personal growth for Nalu. Juggling her 9–5 alongside her music has been challenging, but it’s also kept her grounded.

“Being independent means I get to own my sound and my space. This year really reminded me why I make music – I love it. It’s my gift,” said Nalu.

A larger project is on the way, and Meteor acts as its dazzling, cosmic introduction.

“The world is my oyster right now, and I’m so grateful to be creating again,” said Nalu.

Meteor is out now. If you would like to take a listen, you can stream it here.
