South African rapper and businesman Siyabonga Metane, widely known as ‘Slikour’, has been hospitalised after a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sunday while he was jogging. Fortunately, he is recovering well.
Slikour first gained prominence in the 1990s as a founding member of Skwatta Kamp, a trailblazing hip-hop group that made history in the South African music industry. The group gained widespread recognition with their hit song Uzozwa Umoya and was composed of talented members, including Infa, Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Bozza, Relo Makhubo, and Slikour himself.
Over the years, he has continued to make a significant impact on the entertainment and business sectors.
Hit-and-run accident
Taking to his Instagram account, Slikour opened up about the harrowing experience, sharing the details of what transpired on that fateful Sunday.
In his post, he recounted the shocking moment of the hit-and-run accident.
“While running, I got hit and run by a car. I’m ok thanks God but what traumatised me is when the nurse at the hospital told me how common hit and run patients get admitted in South Africa,” Slikour wrote.
Appeal to the community of joggers
As he continued writing, he took a moment to urge the jogging community to remain vigilant, emphasising the dangers posed by reckless drivers and hit-and-run incidents.
He expressed concern over the lack of accountability from such perpetrators, highlighting that they show no regard for the safety or well-being of others.
“I know there’s a community of us doing our jogs and walks I would like to appeal to you to please be vigilante. These perpetrators don’t care about you and your health goals or whatever gets you up,” Slikour wrote.
Reason behind posting about the accident
Closing his post, Slikour explained that he chose to share his experience out of gratitude, acknowledging that his situation could have been worse. He expressed relief that he survived the ordeal and emphasised that his intention was to raise awareness so that others do no have to go through a similar traumatic experience.
Adding a bit of humour in his message, this is what he wrote:
“Also I know if I was listening to Kendrick and not Drake on my pods, this wouldn’t have happened to me. Seriously though, be safe out there. There are many families out there and I’m only posting this cause I’m grateful my situation wasn’t worst and wouldn’t want anyone else experiencing it,” Slikour wrote.
