Chocolate berry overnight OatsChocolate berry overnight Oats: the perfect blend of indulgence and nutrition to start your day right. Picture: Supplied

One thing about me — I’m not a breakfast person.

But when I do have it, I make sure it’s something simple, healthy, and quick to prepare. I’m all about those easy meals that don’t take much effort but still feel like a treat. That’s why overnight Oats has become one of my go-to breakfasts. You literally mix a few ingredients the night before, pop it in the fridge, and wake up to something creamy, flavourful, and ready to eat.

Lately, I have been loving this chocolate berry combo — it’s not just delicious, it’s packed with benefits too. You get a boost of antioxidants from the berries and cocoa, plenty of fiber to keep you full, and balanced energy that lasts all morning. It’s basically breakfast that does the most, with the least effort.

Would you like to try it? Here’s my favourite version of Chocolate Berry Overnight Oats.

How to make Chocolate berry overnight Oats

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
Chill time: 6–8 hours (overnight)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup milk (cow’s, almond, oat, or soy milk)
  • ¼ cup plain or vanilla yogurt (optional but makes it creamier)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (optional, helps thicken)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen — strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.)

Optional toppings (add in the morning):

  • Extra berries on top
  • A drizzle of melted dark chocolate or Nutella
  • A spoonful of Greek yogurt or nut butter
  • Sprinkle of granola or crushed nuts for crunch

Method:

  1. In a jar or bowl, mix oats, cocoa powder, chia seeds, honey, vanilla, and salt.
  2. Add milk and yogurt, then stir until the cocoa powder is fully blended in.
  3. Gently fold in the berries.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 6 hours).
  5. In the morning, give it a good stir. Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!
