Homemade delicious Beef SamoosasCold, tired, and not in the mood to cook? These easy beef samoosas are the cosy hug you didn’t know you needed. Picture: Supplied

It’s Thursday!
But instead of the weekend vibes kicking in, we have got clouds, cold winds, and a bit of rain tapping on the windows. On days like this, most people go straight into soup mode — hearty bowls, warm mugs, and long-simmering pots. But not me. Nope. When the weather gets gloomy, I get lazy (in the best way possible). I want something warm, tasty, and quick… because let’s be honest — the couch, a blanket, and my favourite show are calling my name.

So instead of slaving over a stove for hours, I’m keeping things simple, crispy, and oh-so-satisfying — Beef Samoosas.

Yes, you heard right. It’s been a long week. You are tired, it’s cold, and you still have to feed yourself. But don’t worry — this recipe is easy, comforting, and perfect for those “I just can’t” days.

So my dear reader, if you are anything like me today — cold, tired, and only semi-functioning — then this recipe is your new best friend. Let’s get into it.

How to make delicious Beef Samoosas

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small carrot, grated (optional, for extra texture)
  • 1/2 cup peas (optional)
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander/cilantro, chopped

For assembling:

  • 1 packet of filo pastry sheets or samoosa wrappers
  • 1 beaten egg or water (for sealing edges)
  • Oil for deep frying (or brushing if baking)

Method:

Prepare the filling:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sauté until soft and golden.
  3. Add the minced beef and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the curry powder, turmeric, cumin, coriander, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add grated carrot and peas (if using) and cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and mix in fresh coriander. Let it cool slightly.

Assemble the samoosas:

7. Cut the filo or pastry sheets into strips (about 7–10cm wide).
8. Place a small spoonful of the beef mixture at one end of the strip.
9. Fold the strip over the filling in a triangular shape, continuing to fold until the end of the strip.
10. Seal the edge with a little beaten egg or water.

Cook the samoosas:
Deep Frying:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the samoosas in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 3–4 minutes).
  • Drain on paper towels.

Baking (healthier option):

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Place samoosas on a lined baking tray and brush lightly with oil.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and crisp.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve hot with chutney, tomato sauce, or a spicy dipping sauce.
  • Great as a snack, starter, or part of a party platter.
