Homemade Pepper steak

Today’s Tasty Pick! Delicious DIY pepper steak recipe

Let’s face it: Thursday is the day we start counting down to the weekend. But why wait for Friday to indulge in something special?

This pepper steak recipe is the perfect antidote for your Thursday night!

In just a few simple steps, you will have a dish that is as satisfying as it is impressive. No fancy ingredients, just bold and easy cooking that makes a weeknight feel like a treat.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 boneless beef steaks (sirloin or rib-eye works best)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly cracked black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (for extra kick)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Method:

1. Prepare the Steak: Season the steaks with salt and freshly cracked black pepper on both sides. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes at room temperature.

2. Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and sear them for 3-4 minutes per side (or until they reach your desired level of doneness). Once done, remove from the pan and set aside to rest.

3. Sauté the Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they are softened and slightly caramelised. Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

4. Make the Sauce: Add the freshly cracked black pepper, ground pepper, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir everything together for 1 minute. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 3-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly.

5. Finish the Sauce: Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for an additional 2 minutes, thickening up. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt if needed.

6. Combine: Slice your rested steaks against the grain and return them to the skillet. Spoon some sauce over the top, and let the steak soak in the flavours for 1-2 minutes.

7. Serve: Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed veggies for a complete meal.
