Former Miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo couldn’t hide her excitement after the crowning of the new Miss SA 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni.
The 24-year-old speech therapist from East London in the Eastern Cape stole the spotlight on Saturday, 25 October 2025, when she was crowned at the glitzy SunBet Arena, Time Square in Pretoria.
Since that unforgettable moment, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Qhawekazi — from fans and celebs to political leaders, and even President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Basetsana’s message of praise
Having walked this path herself, Basetsana Kumalo was among the many who sent heartfelt congratulations to the new queen.
The former beauty queen, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1994 and went on to become first runner-up at Miss World that same year, knows exactly what this journey entails.
Taking to Instagram to share a message filled with love and wisdom, Basetsana penned a few touching words to the 24-year-old Miss SA, reminding her that this is only the beginning of an incredible adventure.
