The hunt for the next dream island is heating up on Tropika Island Search — and this week, all eyes are on Chad Jones and host Zanele Potelwa as they jet off to the stunning coastal gem of Antalya in Turkey. A globetrotting spin-off of Tropika Island Of Treasure, the show follows former celebrity contestants as they travel the world, uncovering jaw-dropping destinations — all in pursuit of the ultimate location for the show’s much-anticipated 12th season. Now, Turkey might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think “island paradise,” but Antalya is here to change that narrative. With its postcard-perfect scenery and hidden coastal gems, Chad and Zanele quickly discovered that this destination can go toe-to-toe with some of the world’s most iconic island getaways. Fresh from the trip, Chad is spilling all the details in this Q&A about why Turkey could be the next big star of Tropika Island Of Treasure. Here’s what he had to say: 1. Chad, first impressions always count. What surprised you most about Antalya when you arrived? “What surprised me most about Antalya was how picturesque and beautiful it is. I did not expect it! Much like our mountains back home, it almost looks like a painted backdrop surrounding you. What also surprised me was how rich in culture it is, and how proud the people are of their history and heritage,” said Chad. Tell us a little bit more about Antalya’s island feel. “I can definitely say now that Turkey is up there for me when it comes to that island feel and paradise. Wow! The beaches are spotless and the water is crystal clear. What makes it even better is that the water temperature is perfect. They are not too cold and not too warm. There are also hidden caves and surrounding islands with fascinating history, which makes it even more special,” said Chad. 3. Antalya is known for its mix of beach and history. How did that contrast shape your experience? “The history on these islands is what intrigued me the most. There’s one small island where, right in the centre, there’s a freshwater spring – even though it’s surrounded by saltwater, which is unbelievable. Back in the day, travellers would stop there for drinking water. It was hard to believe until our guide took us there and we tasted it ourselves. My word, it was the best water I have ever had,” said Chad. Zanele and Chad clinked their Tropika bottles while basking in the ocean views. Picture: Supplied 4. If you had 24 hours to help a friend truly experience Antalya, what would your itinerary look like? “First, we would fill our bellies with doner kebabs. Then we would walk it off by visiting the Old Town and exploring the beautiful ruins, before ending the day with a sunset cruise where we would swim in the ocean while a chef prepares fresh fish onboard,” said Chad. 5. You are a massive foodie as well! Tell us a little bit about the food you ate on the trip? “Being in Turkey, my mind was set on one thing: doner kebabs! I’m literally obsessed. But beyond that, we were treated to incredible seafood lunches on the boats, prepared by locals. After this trip, Turkish food definitely ranks in my top five cuisines,” said Chad. 6. You are an avid traveller. Besides Turkey, what have been some of your favourite destinations? “That’s true! I love to travel and I have been lucky to visit some incredible places. Some of my favourites, besides Turkey, would be China, Greece, Spain and Mozambique,” said Chad. 7. Why do you think Antalya is the perfect setting for the next season of Tropika Island Of Treasure? “I think Antalya is the perfect setting because of its incredible beaches. I can already imagine amazing water challenges along the shoreline, combined with puzzle challenges inspired by the city’s rich history. Running through ancient ruins would feel like being in a movie. It’s visually stunning. Antalya really has it all,” said Chad. Chad and Zanele geared up in their swim goggles and masks, striking a pose for the camera. Picture: Supplied 8. Tell us a little bit about your experience as a contestant on Tropika Island Of Treasure last season. “I can confidently say that, although short-lived, it was one of the best experiences of my life. Travelling to another country, experiencing new cultures and competing for R1 million is something truly special. I also made great friendships with fellow contestants and celebrities, some of whom I still see today. The experience really pushed me out of my comfort zone because I’m just a TikTok boy who tries to dance!,” said Chad. 9. Auditions for the new season are now open. What advice do you have for contestants wanting to stand out? “Firstly, be yourself. Do not be afraid to show your personality! Yes, physical ability matters and you should show that in your entry video, but from my experience, you also want someone with charisma, energy and a bit of a competitive edge, someone you can enjoy the journey with,” said Chad. Auditions for Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12 now open While the search for the perfect island destination begins, Tropika is also looking for eight smoooth members of the public to join the season 12 celebrities on the island. Think you have what it takes to compete? Upload your audition tape to either TikTok, Facebook, X or Instagram, tagging @MyTropika and using the hashtag #Tropika. Finalists will compete for the grand prize of a shared R1 million and receive a R10,000 shopping voucher from Pep to ensure they are island-ready in style. Auditions are open until 5 May 2026.
