Singer-songwriter Kelsey Maggott shines with her single Firefly, now streaming on all major platforms, offering an emotionally rich sound that pulses with heart and quiet strength.

The anthem-like track blends stirring lyricism with a soaring melody, inviting listeners into a world where feeling takes centre stage. With a sound that fuses pop energy and indie-tinged depth, Firefly captures themes of vulnerability, healing, and human connection—lingering long after the final note fades.

For Kelsey, music has always been more than a passion; it has been woven into her story from the very beginning. Some of her earliest songwriting memories trace back to primary school, where diary pages quickly filled with original lyrics and melodies. At home, she would perform these songs for her brother, mischievously asking him to guess which famous artist had sung them—only to reveal they were her own. Those playful moments sparked a love for storytelling through music, shaping an artistic voice that has quietly evolved over the years into something deeply personal and sincere.

Finding the courage to share her voice

Although music has always been a defining part of who she is, sharing it publicly did not come easily for Kelsey. For years, songwriting remained a deeply personal refuge—something too raw and intimate to place in the spotlight. But watching the people around her pursue their passions with courage slowly shifted something within her. Taking a leap beyond her comfort zone, she joined Pretty Loud, an experience that proved both empowering and transformative. It was there that she found the confidence to finally share her music more openly. With the release of Firefly, that quiet dream becomes reality, marking it not just a single, but a meaningful personal milestone.

From grief to light

Firefly itself was born during a time marked by grief and loss. At its heart, the song is about finding light again after darkness—holding onto the belief that love never truly disappears, but continues to guide and illuminate our lives in unseen ways. The idea came unexpectedly: lyrics and melody first surfaced in the shower, arriving almost instinctively before gradually unfolding over the following days. From there, the song evolved through a collaborative process with co-writers Amy Tjasink, Mbali Rose and Erin Elliot, alongside producer Jono Greyling.
