Yoh! Yah neh! Fellow South Africans have been left heartbroken following the sad news of the passing of veteran stage and screen actor Seputla Sebogodi.

The talented actor passed away on Wednesday evening, 15 July 2026, following complications related to diabetes.

Since the news of his passing broke, messages of condolences have been pouring in from across the country, with many people sharing memories of an actor whose work became part of their everyday lives.

Before Kenneth Mashaba: Seputla Sebogodi’s rise to TV fame

Seputla’s journey in the entertainment industry was one built over many years. He made his mark in the 1990s, appearing in productions such as Bophelo Ke Semphekgo and Suburban Bliss.

By the time he joined the cast of the popular soapie Generations in 2005, Seputla was already a familiar face to South African viewers. However, his portrayal of Kenneth Mashaba became one of the standout moments of his career as he played the wealthy and ruthless businessman, a character that kept viewers glued to their screens. That role made him one of the most talked-about characters on the show and helped further cement him as one of South Africa’s most memorable television actors.

The talent that extended beyond television

But his career continued all throughout. Over the years, Seputla continued to showcase his talent across different productions, appearing in popular shows such as Scandal!, Rhythm City, and The River, among many others.

Away from the television screen, Seputla was also a Gospel singer and had released gospel albums including Nkuke Morena, Re Tshwarele Melato, and Buya.
