What inspired you to take it a step further into a visual experience? “ISIKHATHI is a reflection on time, healing, and alignment. While the music carries the emotion of that journey, I felt the story could go even deeper through visuals. The visual album allows the audience to witness the music as it unfolds not just to hear it, but to experience the spirit and energy behind it,” said BandaBanda. 2. How do you translate music into imagery and storytelling? Can you give us a peek into the most surprising or unexpected visual concept in the album? “I start by listening to the intention of the music. The visuals then follow the rhythm, emotion, and atmosphere of the songs. One of the most surprising aspects of the project was how powerful simplicity became—allowing the performance itself to be the story and letting the camera simply witness the moment,” said BandaBanda. How do you want your audience to experience the emotions behind ISIKHATHI when they watch it? “I want viewers to feel immersed in the music, almost as if they are inside the performance. ISIKHATHI invites people to slow down, reflect, and connect with their own journey through the emotions carried in the music,” said BandaBanda. 4. ISIKHATHI is rooted in African sound and culture — how did you ensure that your visual album celebrates this heritage while still feeling fresh and modern? “The foundation of the project is authentic African musicianship and storytelling. At the same time, the visual presentation uses a contemporary cinematic language, creating a bridge between our cultural heritage and a modern global audience,” said BandaBanda. With every note, BandaBanda connects with and inspires audiences through his craft. Picture: Instagram@BandaBanda 5. Every creative journey has surprises. What was the most memorable or challenging moment while bringing this visual album to life? “The most memorable moments were seeing the musicians fully surrender to the music during the performances. The biggest challenge was trusting the process and allowing the work to unfold naturally something that ultimately made the project more honest and powerful,” said BandaBanda.
